FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Brethren

Thank God for the joy of Salvation that came to us. It's Christmas, the time to get together with family and friends and revel in the glorious birthday of our savior, Jesus Christ. May all the benefits of 'Christmas' be real in your life always in Jesus Christ's name. May you continue to rejoice in the love and warmth of the occasion.

Have a very merry, meaningful and fulfilling time with Him, the Reason for the season; and very fruitful years of walking with the Lord in Jesus Christ's name. Amen. May the Year 2004 be one of breaking forth on every side with God's divine favour and full restoration. A Year of divine results in Jesus name (Amen).

Rotimi Andu Alumni President

THE YEAR WE HOPE FOR
While full information will basically be available after the Alumni Exco meeting, as the 'yeller' for the body, I can say that we believe God that this will be a year of great expansion for us all both personally and as a body. Indeed, this is a year when those who ride on eagle's wings will survive and prosper in the midst of global storms, and we believe God for the best in this hour.

As an alumni body, we aim to make the body relevant in one sphere or the other to the personal development of every ECU Alumnus and the student body at home. As such, such effirts as the job information thrust will need great input from us all. By the end of the month our new standard interactive website will be in place and we intend that it will be a portal for you to submit exhortations, vacancies, articles, adverts of houses, cars, deals, etc, all within a protected environment in which only authentic members can post.
Your input on how this body can be made relevant to your growth in your environment is craved as well. There will be alumni meetings in all major zones [NOTE: Lagos & Ife will likely hold soon]. Let's plan to contribute. Thank you.

HOME BASE
I am glad to report that the student body is keeping the flag flying, and your encouragement is appreciated. At this season when I am in an airconditioned cafe sending mails after liquidating a healthy dose of Pounded yam,, some 18 brethren are in Ghana attending an African Conference on Missions. They funded the trip themselves via Missions Subgroup, and I hope next time we the alumni will be able to send them some cash to aid such trips.
In addition, Village Subgroup is spearheading a major effort to build yet another Village church. I was there last week and gave my mite, but there's a long way to go.
ECU Sisters' Weekend will hold on Feb 6-8 and the Final Year Brethren have a special spate of meetings where some distinguished alumni will be ministering. Full info: Next edition.

FROM THE ALUMNI EXCO
This is a great poem written by a fellow alumnus, and it absolutely encapsulates our wishes towards you. I have never ceased to marvel at its uniqueness - and I'm not a 'poem-person!'
Have a great read:

Happy New Year !
These 3 words we bid you take
Our gift, our love, our seal of cherished friendship
In it you will find an opener; our desire for you to remain joyous
And what aspirations could we desire than our hearts first should be
...a citadel of heaven's mood
A mere freckle?
Nay
A sole benevolence from God to humanity...
To as many as choose to receive
Dear, dear,
Enter thro' the happy gates and you'd find
... our next wish for you
Something pleasantly new
O! Let it come like the morning dew
Upon all waning hopes
Let it glister on that failing strength to be
That destiny you crave
Like rich embers glowing in rich airs
May your confidence rise to warm every occasion
With this new fire
Let it be
Be it
Be
For so its been decreed
Alas, I wish you Time
Ah! Golden packs of opportunities
A time of love; a time beyond summer
When passions fly
With wings of love
To perch on virgin groove
(There’s no need to scan the horizon)
You’re the only one authorized
Yes, we wish you time
Plenty enough to stoke your delight
At the bureau de change
Where time becomes money!
We wish-a-wish-a-wish-a...
May it be an endless echo, sire
In your grandiose palace
Yes! we wish you time!!
Time enough to be
Time not enough not to be!
Moments just right
Hours that flies past!
Time that stands still at your command
When rapturous moments you capture
Like the coming of the wave?
Like the going of the sun?
Time alone in the backyard of life!
To reminisce the golden history of the past
To blow on the wonders of the future
Sssh! Quiet!
Don't rock the cradle in your excitement!!
Lest the baby wake
She's only a few days old
Sigh!
This feeble, helpless immortal
There lies all our hopes and aspiration and dream
Wrangled in a manger
A savior for every one
A wish now flesh
A time now real
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!!
The christening is over
Shall we proceed please?
